Description:
The ULTIMATE tone machine. As hot as the name implies, the XXX® rips. An amp not for the faint of heart, it comes loaded with practical features such as a high-gain input and paralleled speaker outputs. Utilizes four 12AX7 preamp tubes and four 6L6GC power amp tubes. Power amp section can be converted to use four EL34 tubes. Delivers an earth-quaking 120 watts of pure tube power controlled by a master volume pot and independent volume knobs for each of its 3 channels. The Ultra and Crunch channels have gain controls to further assist in taming this beast while achieving killer sound. Tone contour is accomplished through passive controls for Bass, Mid, and Treble on the Clean channel, while the Ultra and Crunch channels utilize active Bottom, Body, and Hair (lo, mid, hi) controls. Designed to work equally well into 4, 8, or 16 ohm loads, matching this monster to a cabinet is a pleasure, not a pain. Includes footswitchable channel and effects loop, damping switch (tight, medium, loose), and line out with level control.

Dan K says...
This is the best amp i have played through ever. I love peavey amps for life

wanky says...
Its good but overrated, Guitar world put this in the top 10 metal amps, but i think the peavey 5150/6505 deseves that place, in fact i think the 5150/6505 should be ranked at the top.

Style - Instrumental Rock/Metal and Modern Metal Requirements - Thick tone, cut through highs with a tight bottom end, tone doesnt fall apart at high volume. Replacing - Nothing. Complimenting a Line6 Flextone III XL. This will be my road amp. The Line6 is my practice amp (apartment amp). Compared to - (other tubes)Mesa Triple Rect, Marshall JCM 2000, Crate Blue Voodoo ..countless others. The last stack I owned was a rack system including primarily an ADA MP-2, Peavey Classic 120, Alesis Quadraverb II, and various compressors and other crap thru a Laney 4x12 w/ Celestion 75's. The ADA was the only preamp I ever used that actually had too much gain at 10. This was a good thing. While the Line6 is a great product, I want something simple and tube for the road. I dont require the many complex tones that I do when doing home recording with my Line6. Marshall and Mesa have long been the supposed champions of tube amps, but I have to say that for my taste and requirements, they sound too thin on the low end. By thin, I mean a low E sounds more like it came from a Fender Deluxe. Could be fixed with compression but I am not paying >$1000 for a head that doesnt give me the sound I want w/o additional purchases. At the voulmes I was allowed to test at, the Mesa Tripple Rectifier sounded the closest to what I wanted, but it wasnt close enough. I had almost given up and was going to get the matching HD-157 Line6 head until a guy asked me to try out a Peavey XXX in the used amp section. Instant gratification. I knew immediately that this amp was going to be mine sooner or later. Same rich distortion as from the 5150, but imho, a little tighter and better suited for metal with fast complicated low end. I havent bought the amp yet, as I want to try out some Randall and maybe Laney or other Peavey models like the JSX and 6505. I heard the JSX on the last G3 and damn that was a nice tone. It was hard to break from the mind set that Marshall and Mesa are the only real choices for tube amps. I have been playing guitar 15+ years and have owned and heard many amps, this is the one I think suits my style. In the end, its all personal preference.

Wolfe Distorcio says...
I started using Peavey tube amps in the eatly 80's. My first Peavey head was the VTM120, I then moved to a rack system utilizing 3 Roadmaster heads for power, Then I found a 1970 Super Festival series Roadmaster head, and used that monster up until the introduction of the Triple Recto Mesa offerred. I really loved the Recto, but it only did ONE thing well, so I traded it for a Mark 4 head and used that on 4 LOUPGAROU albums as well as 2 years of touring. It was a sensitive head that could not handle being moved and it left me headless countless times. I saw the early ads for the Triple X and after testing it I have owned it for 4 years, dropped it,put it in the trailer while hot, even had a bottle of fog juice spilled over the top. Bottom line, It can take anything I throw at it, and along with 2 5150 4x12 cabs its the best sounding amp on the planet.

Wolfe Distorcio says...
Hands down the Triple XXX head is the GO TO work horse for the working rocker. I have owned these 2 early production heads with the block logo's since they were introduced, and man I gotta tell ya....I have NEVER even had to plug the "backup" head in. This monster was in a torrential down pour in Daytona during bike week....The next day, I got my amp out of the truck and turned it over to have a shitload of water pour out!....Plugged it in..( expecting a pyro show) and it WORKED perfectly! Cant say that for the other bands Marshall's....Jokes on them. This is ALL THE BANG for the buck! Made in AMERICA! Played in AMERICA! PEAVEY is the sound of AMERICAN rock! Ask Eddie! Ask Satriani....Ask Wolfe.

phil says...
this was not the amp for me way to much gain for classic and hard rock even with the crunch way down soundid like i had a thrash pedal hooked up and way to fuzzy whin you pull the guitar volume down so if your in to extreem hardcore metal and music that dosent know what tone is then the triplexxx is the one i guess so i took my triplexxx back to the stoer and got peavey jsx more control any tube sound from metal to 60s and 70s rock TO just plain rock & roll i know the jsx and the xxx look kinda the same but to different amp in my book so the triplexxx gets a 4 and the jsx gets a 10.

verbluten says...
I have had this amp for three years now ad love it immensely. Great balance between the channels, but put a reverb in it please. I do not feel like buying a pedal to mess around with reverb.
